Food Service Worker Lead - UVA-Brandon Ave

Job Description

UVA Dine is seeking a motivated and experienced Lead Food Service Worker to assist in the daily operations at Gaston Food Hub located at 551 Brandon Ave , on the University of Virginia grounds. The Lead Food Service Worker will support the management team in ensuring efficient and high-quality food service, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and providing guidance and support to other food service staff.

• Start Date: August 12, 2025
• Evening and weekends required
• Hourly Pay Rate: $18

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in the supervision and coordination of food service operations, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
• Provide guidance and training to food service workers on proper food preparation, service, and sanitation procedures.
• Assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving tasks as needed, following standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
• Ensure food is presented in an attractive and appetizing manner.
• Monitor food quality and consistency, and report any issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, including equipment, utensils, and surfaces, and ensure staff adherence to sanitation guidelines.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with inventory management, including checking stock levels and notifying supervisors of needed items.
• Provide friendly and efficient customer service, addressing student and guest inquiries and concerns.
• Assist with bussing tables, washing dishes, and other dining area tasks as needed.
• Work collaboratively with other kitchen and dining staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures for the dining location.
• Ensure adherence to all university and dining services policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in food service.
• Ability to read, write, and understand instructions.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide guidance to others.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• ServSafe certification is a plus.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
