Position: Senior Data Architect

Location: Herndon, VA, (mostly remote with occasional travel)

Length: 6 -12 -month Contract to Hire

Target Pay Range: $115.00 - $120.00 / Hourly

Target Conversion Salary : $163,500 - $212,500 / Annually

A leading organization is seeking a Senior Cloud Data Architect (Contractor) to lead cloud-based data modernization initiatives on a flagship enterprise platform that impacts millions of learners nationwide. This role plays a critical part in building a next-generation, scalable data ecosystem that enables analytics, compliance, governance, and innovation across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve a modern enterprise data platform supporting both transactional and analytical workloads
• Design and govern AWS-based data lake architectures, including raw, curated, and consumption zones
• Lead enterprise data modeling efforts (conceptual, logical, and physical) to support scalability, governance, and performance
• Define and enforce data architecture standards, patterns, and best practices
• Translate business requirements, regulatory constraints, and compliance needs into enforceable data models and technical solutions
• Architect and optimize PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, ensuring performance, resiliency, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Design data platforms leveraging AWS services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, RDS/PostgreSQL, and related tools
• Implement data governance, metadata management, lineage, and observability solutions
• Partner closely with engineering teams, product owners, and stakeholders to enable high-quality delivery
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance across teams
• Support on-call rotation and provide remote technical support when required
• Travel occasionally (up to 10%) for project or organizational needs

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience in data architecture, database technologies, and enterprise data platforms
• 5+ years of technical leadership experience
• 1+ year of AWS cloud-based data platform architecture experience
• Strong experience with:
  • Enterprise data modeling and database design
  • Data warehousing concepts and implementations
  • Master Data Management (MDM) and metadata solutions
• Proven ability to work with terabyte-scale datasets
• Experience designing scalable, cost-effective cloud data platforms
• Ability to participate in on-call or 24/7 support as needed
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship limitations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Data Vault architecture
• AWS Certification(s), including:
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner
  • AWS Solutions Architect
  • AWS Big Data / Data Analytics Certification

Work Environment & Expectations

• Hybrid model: Primarily remote, with in-office presence as required
• Must be flexible for occasional travel via car, train, or airplane (up to 10%)
• Ability to meet core business hours consistently
• May be required to provide on-call or 24/7 remote technical support
