Whitespace is seeking an innovative Front-End Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Frontend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the user-facing aspects of our web applications. You will create seamless, responsive, and visually appealing digital experiences. Your role will involve translating design mockups into high-quality code, optimizing applications for maximum speed and scalability, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. 

The ideal candidate is passionate about building intuitive interfaces, has a keen eye for detail, and possesses strong problem-solving skills. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be able to manage multiple priorities effectively. Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, CSS preprocessors, and build tools is essential. Familiarity with accessibility standards and performance optimization techniques is highly desirable.

This position is 100% remote for candidates that are not located within fifty miles of the corporate office. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and reside in the contiguous United States. You will be a W-2 employee of GeoDelphi, Inc., and we do not accept third-party applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain user-facing features using modern frontend technologies.
  • Collaborate with designers and backend developers to implement new features.
  • Work alongside AI/ML teams to integrate large language models and other AI capabilities into the front-end, enhancing functionality and user experience.
  • Design, build, and maintain the React-based web application at scale.
  • Implement user interfaces using Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS to ensure performant, intuitive, and responsive experiences.
  • Apply strong design sensibilities to deliver polished, accessible, and user-centric interfaces.
  • Ensure technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
  • Write reusable, testable, and efficient code.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsiveness,
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in frontend development.
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback from internal stakeholders and end users.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience building React-based web applications at scale. Will consider work experience in lieu of the degree.
  • Expertise in modern frontend frameworks and experience building responsive, performant web applications.
  • Experience with CSS preprocessors like SASS or LESS.
  • Proficiency with Git, version control, and automated testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress).
  • Familiarity with Python for AI/ML integration and the ability to integrate AI models into frontend applications.
  • Proven track record creating highly interactive, user-friendly interfaces.
  • Understanding of responsive and adaptive design principles.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for user experience.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Expertise in interfaces that contain chatbot-based tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), machine learning, or AI-powered tools would be very useful.
