Job Description

Campus Ministry Staff, Harrisonburg, Virginia

In Partnership with The Church of the Incarnation

Ministering to students at James Madison University

OUR MISSION

Our mission is transforming college students to transform the world. We call college students to serve Jesus Christ with their entire lives by:

1. Sharing the Gospel with students and developing passionate disciples of Jesus Christ.

2. Serving together with the church and inviting students into the lives of local congregations.

3. Giving students a vision for serving Jesus Christ in their studies, jobs, communities, and families.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to see a generation of college students transformed by the power of Jesus Christ and His Gospel, in partnership with the local church, reaching the world for the glory of God.

OUR VALUES

1. All things belong to God.

2. Jesus changes people’s lives.

3. We love college students.

4. We embrace God’s multiethnic kingdom.

5. Faithfulness is pursued together.

6. We celebrate life.

OUR MODEL

At the core of CCO ministry is the understanding that God works through the Church to fulfill His purposes in the world. This means the local church is the proper context for gathering, equipping,
and sending students into a life-long Kingdom mission. Our Partnership model promotes deep collaboration between the CCO and the local church where vision for ministry, ministry strategy,
and ministry design are mutually shared. The CCO places Campus Ministry Staff to help mobilize the church to reach students and develop them as future Christian leaders.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Catalyze Kingdom transformation at JMU by sharing the Gospel, inviting students into the life of the local church, and mobilizing the Christian community and churches to engage
ministry on campus. Develop deep collaboration between church/community members and students that promotes strong biblical discipleship, life long commitment to the Church,
and the flourishing of Christ’s kingdom in their local context and all areas of life.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Campus Engagement

    • Create and routinely revise a ministry plan according to the CCO’s Annual Ministry Plan and Campus Ministry Playbook.

    • Maintain a consistent and visible presence among JMU students through regular relational engagement, pastoral availability, and participation in appropriate university activities.

    • Serve as an Anglican chaplaincy presence to JMU, offering pastoral care, prayer, discipleship, and spiritual guidance to students, faculty, and staff connected to
Church of the Incarnation and its wider ministry.

    • Collect and maintain student contact information, following up with and inviting students into church gatherings, discipleship opportunities, CCO opportunities,
and intergenerational relationships within Church of the Incarnation.

    • Invite students regularly to the worship and community life of Church of the Incarnation, CCO’s Jubilee conference, retreats, and other transformative opportunities.

    • Establish a healthy relationship with JMU that honors university guidelines for outside organizations and promotes sustainable campus access for the CCO and
      Church of the Incarnation.

    • Engage the JMU campus in a way that supports and augments, rather than competes with, existing Gospel ministries.

Church Integration

    • Effectively and consistently communicate the vision and progress of college ministry within Church of the Incarnation.

    • Connect students into discipleship opportunities and relationships within the church body, helping them become full participants in worship, fellowship, service, and mission.

    • Develop and expand GenConnect, Church of the Incarnation’s ministry connecting JMU students with Incarnation families for discipleship, fellowship, hospitality, and mentoring.

    • Invite and equip congregants to provide hospitality, mentorship, and discipleship for college students with the aim of sending them out as leaders in their spheres of influence.

    • Equip and encourage JMU students to serve within Church of the Incarnation, especially in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, hospitality, music, prayer,
service initiatives, and other appropriate parish ministries.

    • Support the overarching goals and efforts of the entire church by being an active part of the staff team and maintaining a servant-leadership mentality in all aspects of ministry.

Leadership Development

    • Develop and mobilize student leaders and church volunteers to help lead and sustain college ministry at Church of the Incarnation.

    • Recruit, train, and support Incarnation families, congregants, and student leaders who serve through GenConnect, student hospitality, discipleship, mentoring,
      and other college ministry efforts.

    • Encourage students to participate in leadership development opportunities such as CCO’s Jubilee conference, retreats, church-based ministry teams, and other
formational experiences approved by CCO and Church of the Incarnation supervisors.

Ministry Context & Partnership

    • Steward a positive relationship with Church of the Incarnation that promotes long-lasting ministry in partnership with CCO.

    • Attend regular Church of the Incarnation staff meetings and participate appropriately in the rhythms of parish life, worship, prayer, planning, and communication.

    • Collaborate with the Rector, CCO Supervisor and Partnership Supervisor to ensure shared vision, clear communication, and healthy alignment between CCO and
      Church of the Incarnation.

    • Build and maintain constructive relationships with existing campus ministries, seeking appropriate opportunities for prayer, encouragement, referral, collaboration, and
      mutual support.

    • Participate in the ministry rhythms of Church of the Incarnation, especially in ways that help students become more deeply rooted in worship, sacramental life, Scripture,
prayer, service, and intergenerational Christian community.

    • As appropriate and in coordination with clergy and staff, assist with teaching, small groups, pastoral care, prayer ministry, discipleship, and other church ministries
related to students, young adults, and university life.

Other Projects & Duties Assigned

    • Participate in all required CCO training.

    • Report ministry outcomes through CCO Mid-Year/Year-End Reflections and Annual Campus Stats documents.

    • Exceed 100% of support raising ministry goals.

    • Assist the Rector in exploring the possibility of a Christian Study Center at JMU, including research, relationship-building, vision development, and coordination with
      potential partners.

    • Help with the planning, coordination, and promotion of annual Cafe Veritas public lectures, especially those aimed at engaging students, faculty, university questions,
      and the wider Harrisonburg community.

    • Assist with communication, hospitality, event coordination, and volunteer mobilization related to college ministry and university engagement.

    • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
