Mission or Goal of Unit
The Pediatric Pulmonology Clinic in the VCU Department of Pediatrics is the only specialty group in Central Virginia dedicated to the evaluation and ongoing treatment of all pediatric pulmonary diseases and the only accredited cystic fibrosis center and sleep lab in the region. Specialists provide in-depth clinical evaluation, diagnostic testing and ongoing treatment for pediatric patients who have chronic pulmonary problems such as asthma and cystic fibrosis. Because the care of pulmonary patients is complex and multifaceted, the staff and faculty train medical students and residents to work closely with primary care physicians who will have a continuing role in addressing the day-to-day health needs, while a specialty team works to address the unique needs of children with lung problems. There is a commitment to community partnerships to advance care, education, and community outreach for common pulmonary problems, such as asthma.
