Job Description

Lead the implementation of containerized infrastructure to support a major defense modernization initiative. As the Infrastructure Engineer you'll design, implement, and manage Kubernetes environments enabling the transformation of mission-critical applications within the UWS ecosystem. You'll establish and evolve a robust Platform as a Service (PaaS) ecosystem that forms the foundation for this significant modernization effort. Your expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration will create infrastructure optimized for performance, security, and scalability in support of national defense priorities.

A critical aspect of your role will be guiding the migration process from legacy workloads to containerized environments. You'll develop migration strategies, design containerization approaches, and implement the infrastructure pathways that enable successful transitions for critical defense applications. While your primary focus is infrastructure architecture, familiarity with software development concepts would be advantageous as you navigate the complexities of containerizing legacy systems. You'll manage containerized environments and cloud-native deployment platforms that directly impact the effectiveness of essential defense systems, ensuring seamless operation throughout the modernization journey.

Strategic Leadership & Innovation

• Architect Next-Generation Infrastructure - Design and implement cutting-edge infrastructure solutions across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments that scale seamlessly and future-proof your organization's technology foundation.

• Drive Infrastructure Modernization - Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing systems and processes, delivering strategic recommendations that enhance automation, efficiency, and orchestration while supporting application modernization initiatives.

• Provide Technical Leadership - Deliver architectural guidance that aligns infrastructure solutions with both business objectives and technical requirements, while mentoring team members and developing long-term strategic roadmaps.

• Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with both business stakeholders and technical teams to deeply understand requirements and deliver infrastructure solutions that enable innovation and sustainable growth.

Technical Implementation & Management

• Orchestrate Kubernetes Excellence - Deploy, configure, and manage RKE2 Kubernetes clusters across the entire environment pipeline, ensuring consistent performance from development through production.

• Enable Application Transformation - Support the strategic migration of legacy applications to modern containerized environments, unlocking new capabilities and efficiencies.

• Resolve Complex Challenges - Apply deep technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve sophisticated infrastructure issues that impact business operations.

Security & Resilience

• Design Resilient Systems - Create and implement comprehensive strategies for high availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery that leverage industry-leading practices and technologies.

• Champion Security and Compliance - Evaluate and implement robust security frameworks that protect critical assets while ensuring regulatory compliance across all infrastructure components.

Technology Evaluation & Advancement

• Validate Emerging Technologies - Lead technology evaluations and proof-of-concept projects that rigorously test new tools and platforms before enterprise-wide deployment, ensuring optimal investment decisions.

• Accelerate Innovation Through Prototyping - Spearhead rapid prototyping initiatives that quickly validate infrastructure solutions against rigorous performance, scalability, and reliability standards.

Qualifications

• Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance eligibility.

• 5+ years of experience architecting and implementing enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions.

• Demonstrated expertise with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and multi-cloud strategies.

• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform, Ansible, and

  Crossplane.io.

• Experience building and optimizing GitLab-CI pipelines for infrastructure

  automation.

• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes distributions (RKE2, OpenShift) and container

  orchestration practices.

• Proven experience leading enterprise backup and disaster recovery initiatives.

• Working knowledge of cloud-native storage solutions such as Longhorn.

• Strong Linux administration skills, particularly with RHEL environments.

• Experience implementing comprehensive observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and related tools.

• Ability to establish and enforce security policies through tools like Open Policy Agent.

• Knowledge of identity management solutions such as Keycloak.

• Experience managing artifact repositories including Artifactory and Harbor Registry.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes application deployment tools including Kustomize,Helm, and ArgoCD.

• Strong technical documentation skills with attention to detail.

• Advanced understanding of networking concepts including VLANs, SDN, and load balancing strategies.

• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into resilient infrastructure

  solutions.

• Current CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer) certification.

• Software development experience in C++ and/or Java.

• CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) certification.

• Experience guiding legacy workload containerization initiatives.
