Overview:
A large federal and state contracting firm is seeking a seasoned Portfolio Director to oversee a portfolio of public-facing programs and their associated projects. This role requires a strategic leader with deep experience in managing high-value government contracts and a strong grasp of project management principles. The ideal candidate will be responsible for aligning program outcomes with organizational goals, coordinating resources across disciplines, and serving as the primary liaison with government stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic oversight and direction for a portfolio of programs focused on healthcare, unemployment, and related public services
• Ensure alignment of program objectives with contract requirements and organizational priorities
• Serve as the primary point of contact for government stakeholders, maintaining proactive and professional communication
• Guide project managers and teams in identifying stakeholder responsibilities, prioritizing tasks, and defining critical paths
• Monitor performance across programs, track progress toward milestones, and intervene as needed to ensure successful delivery
• Coordinate resources across operational, technical, and administrative functions to support program execution
• Represent the organization in external meetings and communications with a polished, firm, and approachable demeanor

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in program or portfolio management, with at least 5 years overseeing multiple concurrent contracts exceeding $10 million per year in revenue
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives in a federal or state contracting environment
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies and terminology used in government contracting
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Must be located in the Metro DC / Baltimore area and available to work on-site in Northern Virginia several days per week
