Biomedical Equipment Technician II About the position In support of the Navy Medical Readiness Logistic Command's (NMRLC) Expeditionary Medical System (EXMED) mission, the Biomedical Technician (BMET) will maintain a broad range of biomedical equipment through the equipment lifecycle. Biomedical equipment support includes inspections, calibrations, preventive maintenance and repairs on all medical / dental / scientific equipment, surgical instruments, and related material. The position requires a detail-oriented and highly proficient individual that can adhere to published standards and guidance directed in local Standard Operating Procedures, Navy guidelines, and Department of Defense publications. Key Responsibilities- Performs preventive maintenance, and repairs on all medical/dental/scientific equipment, surgical instruments, and related material.
- Coordinates and works effectively with other departments to prepare equipment for rapid, world-wide deployment in humanitarian, disaster relief and military contingency operations.
- Performs specific tasks that include but are not limited to incoming inspections, regular and unscheduled maintenance, repair, and planning for end-of-life replacement in conjunction with forward positioned materiel and asset deployment schedules.
- Utilizes common test equipment including, but not limited to patient simulators, pulse generators, network analyzers, test phantoms, electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
- Loads Operating Systems (OS) and clinical application software as needed.
- Documents work performed in a computerized maintenance management system and maintain maintenance logs with each piece of equipment for documentation in a deployed environment in accordance with regulatory body requirements, the Office of Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Documentation of Services policies and guidelines, and other requirements.
- Investigates, remediates, and documents Repairable Medical Device (RMD) recalls and safety alerts within established timeframes.
- Participate in local safety improvement processes such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and safety work groups.
- Identifies hazards during routine job performance and takes action to ensure they are addressed and corrected.
- Ensures that all requirements, tests, and certifications have been performed and properly documented.
- Maintains functional knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards of regulatory bodies including, but not limited to, The Joint Commission (TJC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
- Reviews SOPs and maintenance checklists for medical equipment maintenance, to comply with relevant safety codes, standards, and manufacturers literature.
- Completed the DOD Biomedical Equipment Technician program or associate degree in biomedical Electronics Technology, or associate degree in Electronics Technology.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in the Biomedical field, performing preventive maintenance and repairs on various types of medical equipment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security access badge at the client's site.
- Must possess a current valid driver's license.
- Must have the ability to be trained in operating Material Handling Equipment.
- Ability to work at an accelerated pace under emergencies or operational demands.
- Candidate must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats.
- Requirements include walking, standing, reaching, bending, and moving items.
- Required to lift and carry weight over 45 pounds.
- Must be able to work in an Austere environment.
