Associate DevOps Engineer

Overview: VTG is is seeking a highly qualified Associate DevOps Engineer in Manassas, VA . This position is a hybrid position with remote work options and flexible schedules. Dozens of Navy tactical systems ranging between legacy software installed on bare metal to micro-containers running in an on-premise cloud need to be delivered, installed, integrated and tested rapidly and securely. The Associate DevOps Engineer will work to automate the delivery, installation, integration, and testing of Navy tactical software. The Associate DevOps Engineer will work with a small team and will also be responsible for collaborating with a larger community of organizations and government representatives from across the country. The individual will work with limited supervision to develop and implement commercial and/or open-source solutions for inclusion in future tactical systems. This role requires an imaginative thinker and problem solver with demonstrated interest in all aspects of DevOps infrastructure. Responsibilities: The Associate DevOps Engineer will help to maintain unclassified and classified on-premise cloud infrastructure to support development and deployment of the of the next generation tactical system being deployed to the US Navy submarine fleet. The selected candidate will work with many small teams to develop CI/CD pipelines to automate the delivery, installation, integration, and testing of Navy tactical software. Additional work will include prototyping efforts that span a broad spectrum of computer technologies, including server, VM and container management, cybersecurity, data management, and networks. - Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, PaaS, and PaaS Services;
- Assist in maintaining server bays in both unclassified and Secret lab environments;
- Evaluate commercial and open-source products for use in CI/CD pipelines and in a PaaS;
- Integrate and and/or containerize 3rd party applications;
- Conceive, develop, and evaluate novel engineering solutions to address the unique requirements of the maritime environment;
- Participate in cross-domain working groups to coordinate prototyping efforts and brief results to senior engineers;
- Provide and update technical documentation for all work performed.
Qualifications: Required Skills: - Bachelor's or master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology;
- Highly proficient using Linux (RHEL 7, 8, or 9);
- Proficient with Virtual Machines and related tools such as Proxmox;
- Proficient with physical server and switch management;
- Knowledgeable with modern PaaS environment tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Podman, KVM, and Helm;
- Experience with CI/CD tools, languages, and frameworks (Jenkins, Ansible, GitOps, Nexus);
- Experience with shell scripting languages;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness;
- US Citizen with current DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain a Secret clearance;
- Successful completion of background check.
Desired Skills: - Prior experience in the SWFTS environment or with other US Navy tactical/weapon systems is desirable;
- Experience with Automated Testing;
- Experience developing software with C++ or Java;
- Extensive experience as a Linux administrator;
- Experience with secure computing technologies; SELinux, PKI, zero-trust networks, etc.
