Are you a compassionate and skilled Psychiatrist passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and adolescents? We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health team, focusing on providing essential psychiatric care to the younger members of our community in an outpatient clinic setting. This position is part-time, less than 20 hours per week.

Position Summary: As a Psychiatrist for Children's Services, you will be responsible for providing direct medical/clinical services, including psychiatric evaluation, medication management, diagnostic, and treatment services to children and adolescents. You will deliver specialized medical diagnostic and psychiatric treatment services, coordinate medical service programs, and ensure all medical staff meet documentation requirements according to policies, licensure, and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide appropriate evaluations, diagnosis, treatment, screening, and psychiatric evaluations to children and adolescents, documenting all psychiatric care in the medical record in collaboration with the treatment team.
• Evaluate clients for medication, prescribe medication, and provide ongoing medication monitoring and adjustments.

• Offer consultation and feedback to supervisors in the development of children's services programming.

• Participate in the development of clinically relevant outcome evaluation processes.

• Maintain accurate and confidential client records by making formal written entries following Agency charting policy and completing clinical documentation (electronic or dictated progress notes).

What We're Looking For:

Education & Licensure:

• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy (D.O. or M.D.) from an accredited medical school. Will accept a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who can practice independently in the State of Virginia

• Valid Virginia medical license to practice medicine.
• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Psychiatry (preferred).

Experience:

• Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate required
• Experience in a not-for-profit behavioral health care setting working with persons who have serious mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and/or substance abuse disorders is required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of mental illness, including personality and developmental disorders, intellectual disabilities, and Substance Abuse Disorders.
• Understanding of medications and medication interactions.

• Proficiency with the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.

• Effective organizational and time management skills.

• Strong analytical and deductive reasoning abilities.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to review and evaluate medical and psychiatric records from third-party sources.

• Objective observation, evaluation, and interviewing skills.

• Ability to organize duties and responsibilities independently under guidance.

• Ability to communicate effectively and establish rapport with a diverse client population.

• Capable of composing effective, professional correspondence and reports.
