Compensation: $100,000 base salary

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job Description

Addison Group is partnering with a growing construction organization in Ruther Glen, VA to identify a Project Accountant. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced construction accounting professional who can step into a highly visible role supporting project financials from start to finish.

This position will play a key role in job cost accounting, billing, revenue recognition, WIP reporting, certified payroll support, and overall project financial management. The ideal candidate will be self-sufficient, comfortable owning a broad scope of accounting responsibilities, and able to work closely with project managers in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Track and monitor project costs including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses by job
• Maintain detailed job cost reports and analyze budget versus actual performance
• Partner with project managers to review project financial performance and support decision-making
• Prepare and process AIA billing applications
• Support percent-complete billing and revenue recognition calculations
• Ensure timely and accurate invoicing in accordance with customer contract terms
• Track and reconcile project billings, including over/under billings
• Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
• Assist with monthly close activities including job cost accruals and journal entries
• Reconcile project subledgers to the general ledger
• Support certified payroll reporting in compliance with prevailing wage requirements
• Ensure payroll and project documentation align with federal and state contract requirements
• Maintain documentation for audit and compliance review purposes
• Review and code invoices to the appropriate jobs and cost codes
• Support project-related AP and AR functions
• Assist with internal and external audits as needed

Qualifications

• 8+ years of project accounting experience preferred
• Strong understanding of percent-complete billing, WIP schedules, AIA billing, and certified payroll
• Construction industry accounting experience required
• Experience with job costing strongly preferred
• Ability to own a broad accounting scope including AP, AR, and P&L-related project support
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to jump in quickly
• ERP system experience required; Acumatica experience is a plus but can be trained
