Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort floating across all PCU and MS units.
Details
- Float position covering all PCU and Medical-Surgical units within a large acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) and Magnet-designated facility affiliated with a medical school
- PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential to flex up to 7:1
- Patient population includes telemetry, stepdown, and medical-surgical cases with cardiovascular, endocrine, and acute care needs
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
Requirements
- Active VA state or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum experience in telemetry, stepdown (PCU/DOU/IMC), and medical-surgical nursing required
- Must be comfortable working all PCU and MS units
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Experience with central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tubes including Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips, and responding to Rapid Response and Code team emergencies
- Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and caring for patients with endocrine and metabolic conditions
- Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings preferred
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
