Deputy Program Manager - Transportation
Your impact
At Jacobs, we’re far more than a traditional engineering firm — we’re innovators, problem‑solvers, and visionaries shaping the infrastructure of tomorrow. If you’re driven by technical excellence, energized by complexity, and excited about impacting transportation infrastructure across Virginia, the East Region and even on a national stage, this is your opportunity!
Join our dynamic Structural Bridge Practice and help us transform how people connect and move.
We’re seeking a Deputy Program Manager who excels at leading multiple projects within a coordinated framework. This role is designed for an accomplished project leader who wants to expand their influence beyond individual assignments and support program level planning, consistency, and delivery excellence while remaining closely engaged in project execution.
As Deputy Program Manager, you will support the leadership and execution of a portfolio of industry‑defining bridge and transportation projects and programs. You will take ownership to deliver projects consistently and efficiently, and champion technical excellence, while nurturing and maintaining strong client relationships and supporting future workload planning.
You will also help guide program strategy, support regional leadership, and help shape our growing Richmond office while still engaging in challenging and innovative engineering and delivery. Your work will shape our portfolio, expand our influence, and help solve some of the most interesting structural challenges of today.
When you join us, you’ll be responsible for:
• Provide top-tier technical leadership on complex structural and transportation projects — including design build and alternative delivery programs.
• Support oversight of multiple concurrent bridge and transportation projects.
• Oversee all phases of project delivery, from visioning and planning to execution, risk management, and successful closeout.
• Oversee QA/QC processes to ensure technical excellence and contract compliance across projects.
• Direct high-performing project teams, guiding staffing, scheduling, budget control, quality, and safety while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with VDOT and other state/local agencies.
• Anticipate client needs, deliver unmatched service, and position Jacobs for continued repeat business.
• Lead strategic pursuits, proposals, interviews, and presentations that shape our future pipeline.
• Represent Jacobs in client meetings, industry events, and public forums as a respected project and technical leader.
• Identify emerging opportunities and help chart the future of our structural bridge practice at the local, regional, and national level.
• Support Project Manager’s with staffing strategies, scope management, schedule recovery, and budget performance.
• Mentor and inspire the next generation of bridge engineers across our organization.
