Critical System Technician - Lead

As a Critical Systems Technician IV, Switchgear, based in Ashburn, VA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and performance of state-of-the-art electrical systems. Responsibilities

  • Lead start-up, commissioning, repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of mission-critical electrical equipment, including switchgear, UPS, PLCs, batteries, monitoring equipment, and generators.
  • Support pre-sales activities by reviewing technical specifications, submittal packages, and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales, project managers, engineering, and factory teams to ensure seamless project execution and resolution of technical issues.
  • Attend factory witness testing and follow up on punch list items to ensure equipment readiness prior to shipment and installation.
  • Coordinate and oversee installation activities, including site meetings, staffing, scheduling, and technical support for contractors, vendors, and customers.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, identify labor requirements, and report on project status, potential impacts, and change orders.
  • Ensure proper documentation and obtain customer acceptance at project completion.
  • Conduct specialized commissioning and testing, provide training for customers and field engineers, and offer technical support to regional teams.
  • Respond to service calls and perform preventive maintenance services on contracted equipment.
  • Supervise and mentor team members, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work, and supporting their professional development.
  • Travel approximately 30% of the time, with potential for higher travel periods based on workload.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; Bachelor’s degree in electronics, electrical theory, or related discipline highly desirable. Equivalent military training accepted.
  • Minimum 7 years of field repair or customer service experience with electrical, electro-mechanical, or electronics-related equipment, or equivalent military experience.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience with mission-critical power systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting one-line diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Experience with critical power equipment, including UPS, switchgear, PLCs, batteries, monitoring equipment, and generators.
  • Strong organizational, technical writing, and troubleshooting skills; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project.
  • Experience writing JHAs, MOPs, technical reports, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with outstanding customer relations abilities.
  • Ability to train, influence, and motivate team members, and make independent decisions.
  • Supervisory experience, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management.
  • NETA/NICET Level 2 or 3 certification preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to travel as required by the position.
  • Physical ability to move objects up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb as needed; vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
