The VMI Alumni Association is looking for an enthusiastic contributor in building a robust alumni experience as Director of Alumni Engagement.

What the Position Is:

This position reports to and works closely with the Chief Operating Officer of the VMI Alumni Association. Your main focus would be to coordinate and direct the planning and implementation of strategies, programs, and projects that increase alumni chapter engagement, participation, and involvement with the Institute and the VMI Alumni Association. The Director of Alumni Engagement will support Alumni Chapter leadership and other stakeholders on post.

Day-to-Day Activities Include:

• Collaborating with regional directors to ensure effective chapter leadership and succession planning.
• Partnering with chapter presidents to plan, coordinate, and execute chapter events.
• Providing strategic vision and support for the VMI Alumni Association Board of Directors engagement and chapter operations committees.
• Building a robust and popular Young Alumni program to enhance engagement and career development.
• Engaging with various alumni groups, key stakeholders, and friends of VMI to address inquiries
• Planning, coordinating, and executing events as assigned, with staff support.
• Working with the office of the commandant and cadet leadership to facilitate educational programming for the Corps of Cadets, reunion classes, and other alumni.
• Traveling up to 25% to support alumni outreach initiatives.
• Being available for board weekends, reunion, and occasional evening and weekend events.
• Performing additional duties as requested by the COO.

Experience Needed for a Good Fit:

• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Effective communication skills across various mediums, including phone, email, social media, and written communication.
• Strong oral communication skills, with the ability to represent the Institute at group gatherings large and small.
• Experience in building professional relationships.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure mission accomplishment and meeting deadlines.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite, keynote and presentation software, and social media platforms.
• Knowledge of event planning.
