Property Maintenance Inspector (Danville)

Perform inspections and provide technical assistance in dealing with commercial and residential properties; perform maintenance code and rental inspections; provide services to the public and property owners; detect fire hazards, electrical hazards, plumbing hazards, HVAC hazards, structural collapse, etc.; generate notices and inspection reports; maintain files and data; and prepare criminal complaints and legal documents for court cases.

- Performs inspection duties by informing tenants and owners of the inspection process before beginning; documenting violations and photographing for records; providing owners with a copy of field report and information about permits; setting due dates for payments of fees; scheduling re-inspections; generating non-compliance notices; assessing weather and fire damage; performing vehicle safety inspections; and completing inspection reports.
- Completes legal and court action duties by generating criminal complaints and warrants; preparing all property liens; verifying owner information; coordinating with other city departments to gather information; generating and mailing appropriate notices and letters; delivering criminal complaints to court to start the legal action process; gathering and updating pictures as evidence; and recording court decisions.
- Performs other duties by providing management of violation cases; exercising conflict resolution; coordinating with contractors and other city departments on demolition and construction projects; ensuring accuracy of land and real estate information for planning purposes; utilizing software to track new and existing case inspections; overseeing the general fund and block grants budgets; researching potential development sites; attending meetings related to project management and construction; and performing historical project reviews.
- Provides customer services by directing walk in customers; answering and directing telephone calls; providing technical assistance; collecting permit payments and inspection fees; generating customer receipts; and scheduling inspections.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES- Coordinates, oversees, and inspects work performance by contractors.
- Organizes public meetings and informational sessions.
- Participates in continuing education.
- Oversees special projects.
- Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as assigned.

Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by six months/one year of post-secondary study or training: e.g. vocational, business, technical school, and over four years up to and including six years of experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to City criteria

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE
Typically requires use of standard office equipment and telephone, and related software and hardware; and any other tools and equipment as appropriate or as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This work is performed in an office environment and on jobsites, where there may be respiratory and physical hazards weekly; noise and vibration, wetness/humidity monthly; and seasonal exposure to extreme temperatures. There are occasional mechanical and fire hazards, physical danger or abuse. There is rare exposure to chemical and electrical hazards. The employee is expected to use appropriate protective equipment for the assigned task (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe shoes, etc.), and any other equipment as apparent or assigned, if any.
