Our client, an innovative leader in advanced materials and next-generation technology, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive the development of first-of-their-kind mechanical systems!

Location: Sterling, VA
Compensation: $90,000 - $140,000 DOE
Schedule: Mon-Fri, standard business hours.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the mechanical design of complex assemblies from initial concept through high-fidelity prototyping.
• Perform structural, thermal, and modal analysis (FEA) to validate design integrity before physical builds.
• Design and execute rigorous test protocols to characterize material performance and system reliability under extreme environments.
• Partner with expert machinists and technicians to rapidly iterate on designs, utilizing additive manufacturing and advanced materials to solve "impossible" engineering challenges.
• Manage the technical lifecycle of R&D programs, ensuring design intent is maintained from the research phase through low-rate initial production (LRIP).
• High-Level Stakeholder Interface: Translate complex engineering data into technical reports and design reviews for government stakeholders and program partners.

Qualifications:

• Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (M.S. preferred).
• Experience: 3+ years in a Design/Development or Product Research environment.
• CAD Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), with a focus on complex surfacing, assembly management, and simulation tools.
• First Principles Thinking: A strong understanding of mechanics of materials, heat transfer, and dynamics.

Preferred Technical Skills :

• Simulation Expertise: Experience with FEA/CFD software (Ansys, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation).
• Material Science: Experience working with advanced composites, exotic alloys, or specialized coatings.
• Prototyping: Experience with 3D printing (SLA/SLS/DMLS) and rapid-turn fabrication techniques.
• GD&T: High proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to ensure R&D prototypes meet exact performance specs.
• Clearance: Active Secret or Top Secret clearance is a major plus.
