Pharmacy Floor Manager/Trainer

SpecialtyRx is a leading Long-Term Care (LTC) pharmacy providing pharmaceutical services to long-term care facilities and assisted living communities. We take pride in delivering personalized care and high-quality pharmacy services.

The Pharmacy Floor Supervisor / trainer is responsible for overseeing daily pharmacy workflow, supervising pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting pharmacists and management with operational coordination. This role focuses on maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and exceptional service across all pharmacy departments.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Oversight

  • Monitor daily workflow across filling, packaging, verification, and delivery staging.
  • Ensure production and delivery deadlines are met, including STAT and emergency orders .
  • Coordinate workload distribution among technicians and shifts to maintain efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee automation systems and workflow queues to minimize downtime.
  • Manage daily batch workflow using Frameworks Dashboard , including:
  • Clearing batches
  • Combining batches
  • Managing daily workflow queues
  • Releasing delivery routes
  • Lead preparation of the pharmacy floor and shipping areas for onboarding new facilities.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and implement improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory organization and a clean, professional pharmacy environment.
  • Assist pharmacists and supervisors with day-to-day pharmacy operations.

Narcotic Room Management

  • Oversee staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and workflow continuity.
  • Ensure handling, storage, and documentation of controlled substances comply with DEA , State Board of Pharmacy , and company regulations.
  • Serve as the first escalation point for narcotics-related concerns or discrepancies.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Supervise, coach, and support pharmacy technicians across departments.
  • Manage a team of full-time employees (FTEs).
  • Train and onboard new technicians across departments.
  • Provide ongoing development and performance follow-ups for current staff.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful work environment.
  • Recognize and celebrate team performance and milestones.
  • Monitor staff workflow and ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
  • Act as the first escalation point for workflow or staffing issues.
  • Build cooperative relationships with employees from diverse backgrounds.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure daily operations comply with State Board of Pharmacy , DEA , CMS , and company policies.
  • Conduct routine compliance checks for labeling, documentation, storage, and controlled substances.
  • Ensure adherence to USP standards for medication packaging, storage, and environmental conditions.
  • Work with Quality Assurance teams to reduce medication errors and improve service quality.

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as a liaison between pharmacists, technicians, dispatch, billing, and management teams.
  • Lead daily operational huddles to communicate workflow updates and staffing needs.
  • Escalate regulatory or compliance concerns to the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) when needed.
  • Coordinate with Billing, QA, and Dispatch to maintain seamless pharmacy operations.
  • Manage technician schedules and payroll through PC Payroll .
  • Communicate ideas, updates, and operational issues clearly both verbally and in writing.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with onboarding new long-term care facilities and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Support pharmacists and supervisors with pharmacy workflow management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia required.
  • CPhT certification preferred .
  • 3–5 years of pharmacy experience , preferably in Long-Term Care (LTC) or high-volume pharmacy settings.
  • 1–2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy workflow, automation systems, and regulatory compliance.
  • Brand name and generic medication knowledge.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills; Frameworks/ECM experience preferred .
  • High attention to detail, accountability, and excellent attendance.
