Blackbird Health

Job Description

Job Description

About Blackbird Health

Blackbird Health is clinician-founded, owned, and operated by dedicated professionals. We believe that providing the best care for children starts with building the best possible team. We deliver virtual and in-person mental health services across Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey—and we're growing into new markets in 2026.

At Blackbird, we take a whole-child approach, looking at how the brain, body, and behavior interact to address the root causes of challenges, not just the symptoms. Every role matters here, and you'll join a collaborative, supportive, and innovative team that's shaping the future of pediatric mental health care. If you're passionate about helping children and families while growing your career, Blackbird is the place to make an impact.

Join us and help change mental health care for children for the better!

Position Summary As an Intake Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Blackbird Health, you'll play an essential role in delivering comprehensive psychiatric intake evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. You'll build meaningful connections with patients and families from the very start of their care journey, spending the necessary time to understand their needs, educate them about care options, and ensure a seamless transition into ongoing treatment. Working alongside an interdisciplinary team, you'll be empowered to make a tangible difference in the lives of young patients and their families from day one. This remote role requires a minimum of 10 hours per week.

What Makes You, You

  • Mission-Driven: You are passionate about transforming behavioral health for youth and committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate psychiatric care.
  • Clinically Excellent: You have experience working with children and adolescents as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and have practiced independently at the top of your scope for at least two years under licensure. You bring clinical expertise with a warm, patient-centered approach.
  • Relationship-Focused: You excel at building meaningful connections with patients and families from the very first session, taking the time to understand their needs, provide education, and create a trusting relationship that supports engagement in ongoing care.
  • Collaborative: You thrive in team-based environments and love working alongside psychotherapists, specialists, and interdisciplinary colleagues to ensure patients are matched to the right ongoing care.
  • Growth-Oriented: You are open to feedback and eager to learn and grow in a supportive clinical community where best practices and professional development are prioritized.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are comfortable using technology, including Google Suite, Electronic Medical Records systems and other virtual platforms to deliver seamless virtual care.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Deliver Comprehensive Intake Evaluations: Conduct thorough psychiatric intake evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. Develop individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient and establish a strong clinical foundation for their ongoing care.
  • Drive Strong Clinical Matches: Assess each patient thoroughly and collaborate with the clinical team to ensure every patient is connected to the right ongoing provider and treatment approach.
  • Collaborate for Integrated Care: Work closely with therapists and other healthcare professionals to create coordinated treatment plans that address the whole child. Communicate and engage with families during the intake process to ensure a warm, supported entry into care.
  • Educate & Empower Families: Provide education and consultation to patients and their families during the intake process, helping them understand diagnoses, treatment options, and how to support their child's mental health journey.
  • Ensure Clinical Excellence & Compliance: Oversee diagnostic testing including digital and lab results and maintain thorough, HIPAA-compliant intake documentation.

The Basics You'll Need

  • Active PMHNP license in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania or New Jersey
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working independently in the role of a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with children, adolescents or young adults under any nursing license
  • Board Certification by ANCC or AANP (PMHNP-BC)
  • DEA license and State Prescriptive Authority License
  • Autonomous Practice Status
  • Computer, phone and high speed internet
  • Experience with Google Suite, EHR systems and tech knowledge
  • Commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week
