Accounts Payable Specialist

The Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for performing various business financial tasks related to vendor paying and purchasing within the company. Knowledge of general accounting principles is required. General knowledge of the engineering/service and commercial/industrial construction industry is beneficial. The ability to work in a demanding environment, perform multiple tasks, and work as a team player is necessary.
The Accounts Payable Specialist will report directly to the Accounts Payable Supervisor. The ability to work independently is essential. Work will be reviewed for the application of sound professional judgment and accuracy of reporting.
Responsibilities
- Handle the administrative needs of the Financial Accounting Department, specifically Accounts Payable
- Two-way match of invoices against the purchase order
- Manually enter overhead and job-related invoices as needed
- Pull approved invoices into accounting software once approved
- Ensure taxes accrue correctly
- Handle vendor disputes/answer vendor questions
- Review vendor statements
- Employ company procedures, policies, and practices to prevent internal or external fraud, inconsistencies, or dishonesty, as it relates to the responsibilities of the Accounts Payable Specialist I
- Scanning, copying, faxing
- Backup to other Accounts Payable team members as needed
- Ordering new credit cards
- Pull credit card charges into accounting software once approved
- Assist new credit card holders with system coding
Requirements
- Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in accounts payable or related accounting role.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of company policies and accounting principles related to accounts payable.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
