Party Chief Surveyor ( Tunnel Construction Project)

Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services ( . We are currently looking for a Party Chief Surveyor to join our team for a Tunnel Construction Project in Chesapeake, Virginia.

-Project:   Tunnel Construction Project

-Estimated duration of the position: 1 year - In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.

-Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise the surveying team assigned to the tunnel section of the project.
• Establish and maintain accurate horizontal and vertical control networks within the tunnel.
• Conduct daily and periodic tunnel alignments, as-built surveys, and monitoring of deformations or displacements.
• Coordinate with engineers and construction managers to interpret project plans and provide accurate layout and staking.
• Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and use of surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, digital levels, laser scanners, gyroscopic systems).
• Maintain detailed survey records, field notes, and reports.
• Implement safety protocols and quality control procedures within the surveying team.
• Communicate effectively with the design and construction teams to resolve discrepancies or unexpected site conditions.
• Train and mentor junior surveyors and assistants.

-Requirements:

• Degree or diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in underground or tunnel surveying, preferably in major infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency with survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone).
• Strong understanding of tunnel boring machines (TBM), NATM methods, or similar tunneling techniques.
• Ability to lead a team and work under pressure in confined underground environments.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and extended hours as required.

-Working hours : Monday to Friday, 8 am-6 pm (10 hours) (1 hour lunch). There is the possibility of working some Saturdays.
