Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver accurate, effective American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation throughout the school day in classrooms, school activities, assemblies, and field trips.
• Facilitate clear communication among students, teachers, peers, staff, and administrators.
• Support student participation in the general education curriculum and overall school life.
• Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education personnel, and related service providers.
• Maintain confidentiality around student information and educational records.
• Adapt interpreting styles to individual student needs and developmental levels.
• Participate in IEP and other school meetings, as required, providing interpreting services.
• Offer feedback regarding communication needs or observed barriers that may affect student engagement.
• Uphold professional standards and comply with all relevant school policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and sign language interpreting.
• VQAS Level III or equivalent certification recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or EIPA Written Test plus minimum 3.5 score on EIPA Performance Test.
• Previous experience in K-12 educational interpreting is preferred.
• Knowledge of special education procedures and the unique needs of deaf or hard of hearing students.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities.
• Strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional interpreter training or education desirable.
