The role of the SDFCU Home Equity Loan Underwriter is to analyze loan requests and make credit decisions based on home equity lending policies and procedures. To recommend home equity and consumer loan products that best fits the members needs and to cross sell credit union products and services. REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: 1. Minimum five years of experience underwriting home equity loans or second mortgage loans or conforming and non-conforming first mortgage loans. 2. A two-year college degree with mortgage, financial, or business concentration or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3. Thorough working knowledge of underwriting criteria utilized by conventional lending laws and federal regulations governing consumer, credit card, and mortgage loan programs set by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). 4. Thorough knowledge of the Fair Housing Act and Consumer Protection Laws such as FCRA, ECOA, TILE/RESPA and TRID, SAFE ACT. 5. Ability to take initiative. 6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 7. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 8. Ability to use sound judgment, diplomacy, and work independently with very limited supervision. 9. Ability to adapt to a constantly changing work environment and demonstrate flexibility.
