Role Overview
We are seeking a Medical Physicist to collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective use of ionizing radiation for patient care. This role plays a vital part in radiation safety, equipment quality assurance, and the advancement of treatment techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with physicians to oversee the safe application of ionizing radiation in patient treatments.

Serve as a key member of hospital committees related to radiation safety.

Maintain professional relationships with department directors and medical leadership.

Provide medical physics coverage for areas such as Radiation Therapy and Cardiac Catheterization.

Collaborate with engineering teams on radiation shield designs for hospital departments utilizing ionizing radiation.

Lead acceptance testing for new or upgraded medical imaging and radiation therapy equipment.

Conduct calculations and measurements to enhance treatment planning and investigate new techniques.

Review and verify calibration protocols for their impact on clinical applications.

Research and evaluate advancements in equipment to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

Benchmark data with other radiation therapy institutions to ensure best practices.

Stay current with clinical and dosimetry literature and regulatory policies.

Serve as a consultant for physicians on patient dosages, equipment assessments, and quality assurance.

Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines related to radiation use.

Coordinate with equipment vendors regarding purchase specifications, quality assurance, and routine maintenance.

Provide radiation exposure consultations for patients and the public.

Deliver educational sessions on radiation safety and physics-related topics to medical personnel.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree in Physics or a related field (Doctoral degree preferred).

Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Clinical Medical Physics.

Certifications: American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification required.

Licensing: Virginia Inspector certification within the first two months of hire (application must be submitted at the time of hire).

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of scripting is preferred.

Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred.

Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred.

Other Requirements: Availability for work outside of standard business hours (nights and weekends) as needed.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Schedule & Work Environment:

Full-time role, Monday through Friday, day shift.

In-person work setting.
