How You Will Make An Impact:
- Execute month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.
- Research and apply U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting guidance to complex accounting matters.
- Support the adoption and implementation of new accounting standards and internal accounting policies.
- Prepare clear accounting documentation, position papers, or technical memoranda supporting accounting conclusions.
- Perform accounting and reporting activities for investment portfolios that may include fixed income and alternative assets.
- Execute SOX controls and help maintain accurate, well-supported financial processes.
- Evaluate accounting workflows, system outputs, and data to identify errors, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Partner with finance, investment, reporting, and operational stakeholders to resolve complex accounting matters.
- Support process improvement and automation initiatives, including existing analytical or workflow tools.
Do You Bring Proven Success in Technical and Complex Accounting?
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience.
- Public accounting experience with a Big 4 or established regional accounting firm.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and experience interpreting accounting guidance.
- Demonstrated experience adopting or implementing new accounting standards or requirements.
- Hands-on ownership of journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Ability to explain complex accounting conclusions clearly to business and finance stakeholders.
- CPA certification is strongly preferred; candidates actively pursuing certification may be considered.
- Investment accounting, insurance, financial services, or asset-management experience is preferred.
- Exposure to fixed income securities, alternative investments, CECL, or statutory reporting is beneficial.
- Experience with Oracle Financials, TM1, PAM, Alteryx, or similar financial systems is helpful.
- Strong analytical judgment, adaptability, communication, and documentation skills.
- Must be local to the Richmond, Virginia area and available to work onsite twice per week.
