Family Assistant / Household Manager - Live in or Live out!

Start Date: September 1, 2025
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/guaranteed weekly. Schedule provided 4-6 weeks in advance. Most days will be until 7pm, with flexibility required for occasional later evenings & overnights as needed.

About the Family:

A warm, high-performing family in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a dedicated Family Assistant / Household Manager to join their household long-term. With two independent, kind, and curious children (ages 10 and 8), and two career-driven parents deeply involved in the education sector, the family values professionalism, structure, and a strong sense of teamwork.

Mom is highly detail-oriented and organized, providing clear systems and resources (like a family recipe book) to help set this person up for success. Dad brings a more casual, easygoing energy to the home. Their household runs smoothly and is always guest-ready, supported by a part-time housekeeper & by a gardener. They believe it truly “takes a village,” and are looking for someone proactive, communicative, and warm to join theirs.

Key Responsibilities:

Childcare

• School pickups and driving to after-school activities
• Organize playdates and support development of routines and manners
• Homework assistance and enrichment
• Encourage independence and responsibility in daily tasks

Household Management

• Manage family laundry and light ironing
• Grocery shopping and inventory management
• Coordinate with housekeeper, gardener, and service vendors
• Maintain family calendars and manage household schedules
• Prepare nutritious, family-style meals using a recipe book
• Maintain a shared grocery list and manage pantry supplies
• Keep kitchen and shared spaces clean and organized

Family & Event Support

• Assist with holiday decorating, mailing cards, and packing for travel
• Help prepare for family gatherings and work events

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Prior experience in a Family Assistant or Household Manager role
• Educational background and ability to assist with homework
• A proactive, self-starting mindset (always thinking 3 steps ahead)
• Comfortable in the kitchen and skilled at preparing family-style meals from recipes.
• The ability to “read the room” and adapt accordingly
• Comfort swimming and supervising children in the water
• Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills
• Calm, professional presence with warmth, integrity, and humor
• Fully vaccinated (COVID-19, flu, etc.)
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Compensation: $36–$40/hour (W2)
