HR Coordinator
Amherst County is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Human Resources (HR) Coordinator to provide advanced clerical and administrative support to our Human Resources department. This position plays a vital role in ensuring smooth HR operations and delivering exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
Working directly under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources , the HR Coordinator performs a wide range of duties including reception support, records management, onboarding assistance, benefits administration, and more. The ideal candidate is professional, discreet, proactive, and comfortable managing confidential information in a fast-paced office environment.
Salary range begins at $55,000+ to commensurate with experience Schedule is Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm with a 30- minute lunch Key Responsibilities:Serve as the first point of contact for the HR office—answering phones, greeting visitors, and directing inquiries appropriately.
Prepare and maintain employee files, records, and benefit packets.
Assist with coordinating recruitment, onboarding, compensation, and benefits administration.
Handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality.
Input and manage complex data in HR systems; generate reports as needed.
Review forms and documents for accuracy and completeness.
Receive, sort, and process incoming and outgoing mail.
Operate office equipment and software for word processing, spreadsheets, and data management.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
College-level coursework in human resources, business, or related field. Bachelor's degree in an HR discipline highly preferred.
1-2 years' experience in an administrative or HR office setting. Experience working in the public sector is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Working knowledge of HR practices, laws, and procedures.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general office equipment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Primarily sedentary work involving sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Occasional lifting of items up to 15 lbs.
Requires fine motor skills and visual acuity for computer-based work.
Vocal communication and active listening skills required.
Must complete specialized training in HR policies and regulations within one year of hire.
Ongoing training through workshops and publications is expected.
A valid Virginia driver's license is required.
