Systems Engineer - Linux / Windows
Direct Hire
First 6 months on-site, Fairfax, VA – then hybrid 2 days a week on-site thereafter
Salary: $120,000 to $125,000 annually, plus benefits
Federal End-Client: US Citizenship required, eligible for Public Trust clearance
System One IT is staffing a direct hire opening for a Linux/Windows Systems Engineer with a respected systems integrator, supporting a federal end customer in Fairfax, VA. This is an on-site position for the first 6 months, with 2 days a week on-site thereafter.
Per federal requirements, U.S. citizenship is required, along with eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Linux System tasks
- Bash scripting –Create and/or modify bash scripts used for maintaining image repositories for analysis
- Logical disk setup – able to set up and/or change logical disk configurations depending on the needs of users
- User authorization – able to set up and maintain user profiles
- Windows system administration tasks
- Scripting – able to create & maintain scripts files (.BAT, .VBS) as needed to automate system functions and monitoring
- OpenVMS system administration
- User authorization – add & remove users, maintain passwords
- Scripting – proficient in OpenVMS DCL for various tasks
- Patching – apply needed system updates
- Program development – experience in compiling and debugging programs in various languages (FORTRAN, PASCAL, C, C++)
- Monitoring – monitor systems for performance anomalies, other issues
- Hardware monitoring and management
- Update firmware – update firmware on servers and other hardware components
- Diagnose hardware problems – track and do a preliminary diagnosis on hardware errors for servers and storage arrays
- General knowledge and administration of storage arrays
- Create logical drives
- Perform backups as needed
- Manage Virtual Machines
- Basic knowledge of VMWARE virtual machines
- Start and stop virtual machines
- Edit virtual machines (e.g., add memory or CPUs)
- Move virtual machines between hosts
- Plan, design, develop, test, and deploy applications for monitoring hardware and software
- Application monitoring and Help desk support
- Demonstrated knowledge with at least 5 years of experience with versions of Linux
- Demonstrated knowledge with at least 5 years of experience with Windows system administration
- Knowledge of HPE and DELL server hardware, monitoring, and management skills
- Knowledge of storage arrays and administration
- Ability to evaluate and compare vendor hardware solutions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to document design and support needs
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- OpenVMS system administration knowledge will be a plus
- Three years of experience working in a virtualized environment
- Help Desk or Customer Support experience
- The candidate must be able to obtain a sensitive security clearance.
