Psychiatrist- Hampton ( Inpatient Ward) (Hampton)

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• For residents: enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs or equivalent, and fully licensed
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Psychiatry
• Physical requirements include moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, visual and hearing capabilities

Duties

• This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025, or until filled. Initial referral cutoff is February 28, 2025, with subsequent bi-weekly reviews.
• Provides comprehensive psychiatric assessments and treatments, including diagnostic evaluations, medication management, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy in various clinical settings.
• Serves as a mental health team leader, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, ordering diagnostics, and ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
• Participates in supervision, teaching, research, and quality assurance activities.
• Provides leadership, consultation, and training to staff and residents.
• Responsible for timely documentation and clinical record keeping.
• May be eligible for recruitment/relocation incentives and the EDRP, with specific eligibility and application procedures.
