Staff Accountant
The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join its talented Finance team at our headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
- Support daily Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) operations, including processing invoices, payments, and receipts accurately and in a timely manner
- Support and collaborate with accounts payable and receivable staff
- Manage expense reimbursements, credit card reports, and reconciliations
- Assist with account reconciliations, and month- and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments
- Maintain and update financial records in compliance with the Institute’s policies and accounting standards
- Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data and resolve discrepancies. Respond and resolve internal and external financial inquiries promptly
- Assist with audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries
- Continuously enhance accounting knowledge and stay updated on industry trends
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Accounting and perform additional tasks as assigned to contribute to the success of the finance team
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal and external stakeholders
- Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and adherence to financial best practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Accounting preferred)
- 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Experience with Sage Intacct and Concur preferred
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Hybrid work schedule
- Flexible work hours with our core business hours of 10am and 4pm
