Senior Data Scientist – NLP & Search (100% Remote, Long‑Term Contract)

Our client is a large government integrator working on a long‑term federal program focused on building modern, cloud‑based AI and analytics capabilities. This role supports mission‑critical systems used at national scale.

This is a hands‑on Senior data science role , not a people‑management or operations position.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and building NLP‑driven search and discovery solutions for large volumes of text‑based data
• Developing semantic search, entity resolution, and relationship modeling capabilities
• Working with unstructured documents (PDFs, scanned files, OCR/ICR output, free text, metadata)
• Building and deploying production‑ready machine learning models (not research or experimentation only)
• Collaborating closely with data engineers to integrate models into Databricks/Spark and AWS environments
• Creating model evaluation, confidence scoring, and explainability approaches
• Communicating technical results clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
• Working in an Agile, client‑facing delivery environment

This Role Is a Strong Match If You Have

✅ 4+ years of hands‑on data science / machine learning experience

✅ Direct experience building NLP or semantic search solutions

✅ Experience working with unstructured document data (PDFs, OCR, text)

✅ Strong Python and SQL skills for data science

✅ Databricks and/or Spark experience for large‑scale data processing

✅ Experience deploying models into production (APIs, batch pipelines, or platforms)

✅ Experience working in cloud environments , preferably AWS

✅ Comfort explaining technical work to non‑technical stakeholders

This Role Is Not a Match If

❌ Your background is primarily BI, reporting, or dashboards

❌ You have only academic or experimental ML experience

❌ You have not worked directly with NLP or text‑based data

❌ You prefer research over production deployment

❌ You are seeking a people‑management or operations role

Additional Requirements

• 100% Remote
• Long‑term contract
• U.S. Citizenship required due to the nature of the federal work
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Nice to Have (Not Required)

• Experience with Palantir Foundry or similar analytics platforms
• Federal or regulated‑environment experience
• Explainable AI (XAI), graph analytics, or document intelligence experience
• Consulting or client‑facing delivery background

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of McLean, Virginia.

The pay range for this position is $85.00 - $110.00/hr.
