Product Maintainability Engineer
The Product Maintainability Engineer enhances the serviceability, maintainability, and reliability efficiency of mining truck platforms. This role bridges product engineering with field realities—ensuring that appropriate information is provided to engineering so that mining trucks are designed with reliability and maintainability in mind from the start, leading to reduced downtime, technician efficiency, and life cycle cost effectiveness.

Responsibilities
- Assist engineering design teams by providing critical feedback in design reviews by providing a maintenance and reliability perspective.
- Create quantitative Serviceability and Maintainability Indices to support consistent design evaluation across mining truck platforms.
Use a Serviceability Index to quantify component access, tooling needs, disassembly effort, and space limitations.
Use a Maintainability Index to assess routine maintenance complexity, skill requirements, task frequency, and labor time. - Participate in design reviews and DFMEA exercises to influence design decisions using these indices as performance benchmarks.
- Gather service and maintainability insights from fleet operators, technicians, and service teams to identify pain points and improvement opportunities.
- Translate field feedback into actionable design inputs, aligned with KPI-based serviceability and maintainability goals.
- Validate preventative maintenance procedures, component replacement procedures, so they reflect real-world periodicity intervals and task durations.
- Work closely with diagnostics and telematics teams to contribute to the development of predictive maintenance techniques and remote fault detection solutions.
- Support the development of optimized preventative maintenance schedules based on data trends and coordinated planned part replacements.
- Develop and maintain the factory prescribed preventative maintenance strategy so it aligns with reliability goals and lifecycle efficiency.
- Lead creation and validation exercises for maintenance and service manuals.
- Train internal teams and service partners on simultaneous maintenance strategies and best practices derived from index-based evaluations.
- Monitor Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) metrics in the interest of improving machine performance while reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
Competencies
- BS degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology; and 4 to 6 years in a heavy equipment mining environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong interest in heavy machinery, specifically mining trucks, and a willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in large-scale vehicles or machinery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow technical specifications.
- Knowledge of Outlook software, Excel Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.\
- Hands-on knowledge of mining trucks or off-highway equipment and their maintenance workflows.
- Experience participating in design-for-serviceability reviews and interpreting CAD models for component access evaluations.
- Proficiency in analyzing service data, using KPIs, and developing technical documentation
- Experience creating or applying Serviceability or Maintainability indices in vehicle or equipment design.
- Familiarity with FMEA analysis, failure tracking, and reliability engineering tools.
- Understanding of fleet diagnostics, predictive maintenance systems, and telematics platforms.
- Exposure to harsh-environment durability standards (dust, corrosion, vibration, etc.).
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering, service, and field teams.
- Travel to customer and supplier sites domestically and internationally for 1-4 weeks in duration.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Local Mine induction and access.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Local Mine HSE certification.
