ICU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel nursing contract)
• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 – Virginia healthcare jobs
• Unit: Neuro ICU (7S NCC ICU)
• Duration: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 52 weeks)
• Shifts: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12-hour available by request
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1800-$1840
• Patient Population: Adult critical care
• Start Date: 10/6/2025
• End Date: 1/5/2026

ICU RN Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Virginia or compact state
• Minimum 1 year of recent ICU nursing experience
• Neuro ICU or neurological critical care experience required
• Experience in large Level I or Level II trauma facility preferred
• Proficiency with Epic EMR charting system
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (American Heart Association preferred)
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Ability to work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract (2 holidays during winter assignments)
• Travel nurses must reside at least 100 miles from facility (exceptions for 50-99.9 miles for one assignment)

ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality patient care to adults with stroke, neurosurgical, neuro-specific, and complex spine diagnoses
• Manage external ventricular drains (EVDs) and therapeutic temperature management protocols
• Perform and assist with advanced neuro ICU procedures: arterial line management, central line care, ventilator management
• Administer emergency medications, blood products, and titrate cardiac/vasoactive drips
• Interpret ABGs, dysrhythmias, and manage continuous IV sedation/paralytics
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, rapid response, and more)
• Maintain infection prevention and isolation protocols
• Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR
• Float to other critical care units as needed
