Our OrganizationThe Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board's BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center is dedicated to serving individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. The center provides a comprehensive range of urgent behavioral health services, including crisis intervention, therapy, medication management, and suicide prevention services. Unlike traditional emergency departments, the facility is designed to offer a calm, therapeutic environment that promotes stabilization, recovery, and compassionate care.
Position SummaryHampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking a part-time Receptionist to provide dependable front-desk and phone coverage during overnight hours at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center located in Hampton, VA. This role ensuring callers and visitors receive accurate information, clear direction, and timely assistance.
Key responsibilities include:- Operate a multiline switchboard to answer, screen, route calls, and document messages
- Welcome and check in clients/visitors; determine purpose of visit and direct/escort appropriately
- Provide program information (locations, services), manage logs, extension lists, and conference room calendars
- Prepare correspondence and routine documents; support the program manager with registration, typing, and filing
- Sort/distribute mail and deliveries; complete requisitions for bill payments; order office/program supplies
- Maintain a professional lobby environment and address concerns or complaints with discretion Required skills/qualifications
One year of experience in a receptionist, customer service, or administrative support role within a work environment that demands sensitivity and professionalism, such as healthcare or social services.
Your shift runs every other Friday and Saturday, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. You'll start by ensuring the front reception area is set for a calm, professional overnight environment. As calls and visitors come in, you'll focus on listening carefully, sharing the right information, and keeping documentation accurate.
Between interactions, you'll keep records current, update schedules and lists, and complete quiet administrative work so the program is ready for the next day. You'll coordinate handoffs at shift change, leaving clear notes so the morning team can pick up seamlessly. Throughout the night, you'll rely on steady judgment, courtesy, and consistency-especially when situations require patience and a composed presence.The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
