We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Skill Building Counselor to provide direct support services to adults and/or children experiencing mental health challenges. This role focuses on helping individuals develop essential life skills to achieve stability, independence, and overall wellness within the community. Key Responsibilities
- Provide Mental Health Skill Building Services (MHSS) in home and community-based settings
- Assist individuals with developing skills in:
- Coping strategies
- Emotional regulation
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Daily living activities (ADLs)
- Implement individualized service plans (ISPs) based on client needs
- Document services in compliance with DMAS and DBHDS requirements
- Maintain timely and accurate progress notes and service documentation
- Collaborate with clinical teams, case managers, and family members
- Support crisis prevention and intervention as needed
- Ensure all services are delivered in a person-centered and trauma-informed manner
- QMHP-A or QMHP-C required (or eligibility)
- Bachelors degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Minimum of 1 year experience in mental health or human services preferred
- Knowledge of community-based behavioral health services
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Must meet Virginia DBHDS compliance standards
