This position would focus on programming at Green Street Recreation Center as well as neighborhood parks and facilities. Its primary focus is working daily with the supervisor to develop and plan programs and events for the community based on input from local neighborhoods and residents. The position works independently to provide programs but under the direction of supervisor. Candidate would also support division community and special events. The purpose of this position is to oversee and monitor after school and summer camps on site. This is accomplished by supervising staff to ensure performance of daily required duties and tasks; overseeing the safety of all enrolled participants; carrying out programs and activities set forth by the program coordinator; transporting participants; and performing other job duties related to the program.

The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

  • Monitors program participation by leading activities; ensuring safety precautions are taken at all times; setting up and taking down activities; facilitating programs; and maintaining schedules.
  • Supervises site staff by ensuring all duties and responsibilities are met for the program and reporting any and all discipline issues to the program coordinator.
  • Provides customer service by meeting the needs of all participants as well as parents or guardians during programs; handling issues and concerns with parents or guardians when applicable; and referring all other issues to the program coordinator as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Education and Experience
High School or GED with under and including one year of experience.


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above


Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid Drivers License with acceptable driving record according to City Criteria.
  • CPR and First Aid

Job Knowledge
Intermediate knowledge to perform most work in normal situations. Comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.


Reading
Intermediate: Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, and thesauruses.


Writing
Intermediate: Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.


Math
Intermediate: Ability to deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.


Communication Skills
Decisions regarding interpretation of existing policies may be made. Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.


Independence and Decision-Making
Normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.


Technical Skills
Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.


Fiscal Responsibilities
No budgetary/fiscal responsibility.


Supervisory Responsibilities
Performs essentially the same work as those directed. Includes oversight of quality, training, instructing and scheduling work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work requires light physical exertion, lifting 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Adequate vision, hearing and talking to use a computer, telephone, and communicate effectively with others.

NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • May frequently experience working closely with others as a part of a team. May occasionally perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Responsible for appropriate use and maintenance of City equipment, tools, and other resources, including work time.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE
Typically requires use of standard office equipment, including computer and related hardware and software, and any other equipment as appropriate or required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in an office.

The employee is expected to use appropriate protective equipment for the assigned task; and any other equipment as apparent or assigned.
