About the Job
- As an Optometric Assistant, you’ll set the tone for every patient’s visit — welcoming them, guiding them through pre-testing, and ensuring their experience is smooth, efficient, and positive from start to finish.
- You’ll support the optometrist clinically and administratively, balancing warmth with precision as you work behind the scenes and face-to-face with patients.
- Your specific duties will include:
- Welcome patients, answer calls, and manage scheduling with professionalism and care
- Confirm insurance eligibility and help patients understand their benefits
- Guide patients through intake and pre-testing using modern diagnostic equipment
- Support the optometrist by recording medical histories and preparing the exam room
- Teach patients how to insert and remove contact lenses with patience and clarity
- Track and manage contact lens stock, orders, and pickups
- Ensure the clinic stays organized, clean, and running efficiently
- Help explain next steps after the exam — whether it’s treatment, glasses, or follow-up
- Assist with general office needs and adapt as the day demands
- This position is 4–6 days per week , with a rotating schedule depending on clinic needs.
- Monday 9a–6p, Tuesday 10a–7p, Wednesday 9a–6p, Thursday 10a–7p, Friday 8a–5p, Saturday 9a–3p
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required ; some college coursework preferred
- 1-2 years of experience in an optometric or medical office setting preferred.
- Comfort with pre-testing, diagnostic equipment, and contact lens training
- Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
- Professional, courteous, and patient-centered demeanor
- Dependable transportation and punctuality are essential
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow with a fast-paced team
