Quality Technician
Description
General Purpose of the Position:
This position is accountable for both routine and non-routine inspection; testing and final determination of acceptable/unacceptable printed/perforated tipping based on established standards/ specifications. Also responsible for release of printed to finished goods inventory and laser for shrink wrapping of in-specification product. Raw material inspection and testing as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Determine overall plant product quality by conducting and evaluating various product tests as defined in the test plan for both printed and laser perforated product.
• Function as an information resource for supervision and affected manufacturing personnel when quality issues arise.
• Consult with QA Management on better operational procedures to improve the overall efficiency of the lab.
• Record QA test data in the Mundet Business Systems.
• Review of pallet release data in the Mundet data system (Baan) to assure for completeness prior to releasing product for shrink wrapping of tested and in-specification product.
• Release product for shipment once material has been tested and determined to be within specification..
Skills and Abilities:
• QA Record keeping combined with attention to detail in following written work instructions.
• Basic computer skills with Word, Excel, and data entry in Baan data system.
• Familiarity with printing plant QA testing in Basis Weight, Ink Weight, Opacity, Print to Print, Print to Slit, Width, Coresta, and automated dimensional testing.
• Data entry to include Partial Closing Pallets in Business System, Printing Bobbin and Pallet Labels.
• Use and as needed calibration of laboratory instrumentation, to include spectrophotometer, Mettler balance, Opacimeter, Nikon CCM, Mylar, Graticule, Comparator, Millimeter Ruler, Timer, Light booths, EDI Bar Printers, Mettler Balance, Headspace Gas Chromatograph, and Sutherland Rub tester, Borgwaldt A-15, and Nikon VMA2520.
• Gas Chromatograph (start-up/shut down, loading vials in auto sampler, recordkeeping).
• Laser lab startup and shutdown procedures.
• Must demonstrate compliance to all Personnel Protective Equipment, Safety, and Quality Systems policies.
• Must be able to use the telephone system, Personal Computer, calculators, fax machine, and copier.
Contacts:
Extensive contact with hourly employees, manufacturing supervisors, plant management and some contact with raw material suppliers and customers.
Decision / Judgment:
Evaluate product produced for specifications, printed defects, etc. and judge acceptance of same. Independent decisions are made using knowledge of product acceptance. Work assignments are defined and executed with minimal supervision. Must possess the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Errors / Accuracy:
Speed and accuracy are required in a fast-paced machine environment.
Effort / Working Environment:
This job is performed in a climate controlled environment and on the plant floor. Extensive walking and some climbing of steps is required, as well as overtime must be worked as required to meet customer expectations. May involve some lifting up to 30 lbs. This position works a rotating shift.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
Position requires a high school graduate or equivalent with good basic math skills. Knowledge of the metric system and simple statistics (average/standard deviation) helpful. Good verbal, reading and writing skills with the ability to comprehend oral and written procedures and specifications. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate. Previous one year experience in a lab environment helpful. Three to five months on-the-job training required to become proficient in all aspects of the job.
