Objective:The HVAC & Controls Technician Helper supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration piping, HVAC systems, and control systems under the supervision of experienced technicians. This entry-to-mid-level position provides hands-on training and technical exposure for individuals pursuing a career in HVAC and controls, with a focus on both mechanical and control systems.
Job Duties:Assist in the installation of refrigerant piping and condensate lines (cutting, bending, hanging, and connecting pipes).
Support HVAC and refrigeration system installs, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated controls.
Assist in troubleshooting and mounting of control devices, including wiring DDC systems and BAS (Building Automation Systems).
Perform vacuum tests, pressure tests, and inspections to verify system integrity.
Assist with low-voltage wiring for VRF and control systems.
Travel to residential and commercial sites for repairs, installations, and performance testing.
Create and maintain accurate service logs, reports, and equipment records.
Perform consultations with customers, support owner trainings, and conduct equipment demonstrations.
Handle tools and equipment responsibly, ensuring proper use, storage, and maintenance.
Support inventory management for materials, tools, and supplies.
Assist in ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance.
Stay informed on industry advancements in HVAC and control technologies.
High School Diploma or GED (HVAC or control systems training preferred).
At least 1-2 years of experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or controls (preferred but not required for helpers).
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Basic understanding of HVAC and control systems, including schematics and diagrams.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring schematics, and work plans.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., work in confined spaces, and handle physical labor (climbing, crouching, kneeling, etc.).
