Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and observant Detention Specialist I to join our team. In this entry-level role, you will maintain the safety, security, and orderly operation of our local detention facility. You will monitor residents' behavior, enforce facility rules, and ensure a secure environment for staff, visitors, and inmates alike. No prior corrections experience is required; comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Facility Security: Conduct routine patrols of housing units, secure doors, and monitor surveillance cameras.
- Inmate Supervision: Oversee movements during meals, recreation, visitation, and medical appointments.
- Intake & Release: Assist with booking new arrivals, searching property, and processing releases.
- Rule Enforcement: Enforce facility regulations fairly and document any disciplinary infractions or unusual incidents.
- Inspections: Conduct regular searches of cells and common areas for contraband to ensure safety.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate daily logs, headcount records, and incident reports.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Age: Must be at least 21 years of age (or 18, depending on local agency policy).
- Legal: Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with a valid driver's license.
- Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive criminal background check
- Fitness: Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk, and respond quickly to emergency situation.

- Detail-Oriented: Strong situational awareness and an eye for changes in inmate behavior.
- Teamwork: Capability to follow strict protocols and work seamlessly with fellow officers.
