Role Overview

Johnson Controls is a global organization focused on helping customers improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of their operations. In Global Service, Parts, Central Ops, the Aftermarket Parts Engineering team plays an important role in supporting technical parts identification, serviceability, and the continued success of our industrial refrigeration aftermarket business.

The Aftermarket Parts Engineer I supports escalated Parts ID cases from the Parts ID CSR Team and acts as a technical liaison when advanced research or product support is needed. This role combines parts identification, engineering judgment, and strong cross-functional communication to help deliver accurate part-number responses, support quoting and ordering, and maintain the technical knowledge base behind the Parts ID process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage escalated Parts ID case volume and provide accurate part-number responses to support customer requests.
  • Support technical and advanced parts identification inquiries for Industrial Refrigeration equipment, compressors, and related service parts.
  • Partner with Product Technical Support, parts engineers, product managers, and sales managers to resolve complex requests.
  • Support quoting and ordering activities by supplying technical details needed to move requests forward.
  • Conduct Parts ID training and share documentation for escalated cases, new products, and new options.
  • Help maintain the product reference training library and technical documents used to strengthen parts and product knowledge.
  • Support sustaining activities by ensuring engineering changes are correctly implemented in parts identification workflows and the Parts ID application.
  • Represent global Aftermarket Parts business interests during the continued development of EasyParts.
  • Support growth initiatives by helping define and create kits that support the Aftermarket Parts business.

How You Will Do It

  • Own escalated cases with urgency and accountability, keeping customer responses on track to meet the expected 24-hour and 48-hour targets.
  • Work independently while staying aligned with internal partners, using sound engineering judgment and the facts available to deliver accurate results.
  • Translate technical findings into clear, professional guidance that helps customers, CSR teams, and internal stakeholders move quickly.
  • Build trusted working relationships across Parts Engineering, Product Technical Support, Product Management, and Sales by communicating clearly and consistently.
  • Use available parts systems, ERP data, engineering drawings, and bill of materials information to validate part numbers and support decisions.
  • Share knowledge openly, document learning from escalated cases, and contribute to continuous improvement of the Parts ID process and reference library.
  • Stay close to the work by spotting issues early, removing obstacles for customers and internal teams, and helping sustain accurate parts support over time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in the HVAC industry with Industrial Refrigeration equipment.
  • Extensive experience using Parts Information Management Systems and working with manufacturing ERPs.
  • Strong knowledge of Industrial Refrigeration equipment, Manufacturing and Service Bill of Materials information, and technical parts identification.
  • Ability to understand complex engineering drawings and bills of materials.
  • Experience supporting escalated technical requests and delivering accurate customer responses within deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects and assignments while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence working independently and managing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SAP, MAPICS, and EasyParts.
  • Experience with compressor packages and YPS inquiries.
  • Previous exposure to Industrial Refrigeration parts training, product reference libraries, or technical documentation development.
  • Experience supporting kit definition or aftermarket growth initiatives.
