Position Description
CGI has an immediate need for an Application Database Administrator to join our financial services team in Herndon, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced team environment supporting one of the largest leaders in the secondary mortgage industry. Working as an Application Database Administrator, you will design, structure, and maintain one or more discrete databases used by business units or infrastructure units. Test, quality control, and performance tune data to ensure its integrity and reliability. Confer with business unit and technical staff regarding extracting data for particular reports. Monitor or accomplish refreshing of data and installation and testing of new releases or patches of database software.

Your future duties and responsibilities
• Maintain responsibility for analysis of Oracle/ SQL code and development where changes are necessary. Tunes queries / stored procedures, indexes, and other database elements.
• Develop or maintain stored procedures, including designing, coding, testing, debugging, and installing.
• Ability to follow software development methodologies, including working through business requirements and designs with IT partners.
• Review and enhance existing Sybase / SQL code to improve performance and ensure application meets industry-standard specifications.
• Interface with partners throughout systems to determine impacts of software changes.
• Confer with application development staff or project management staff regarding task definitions and schedules for substantial projects involving database(s).
• Plan and design database changes necessary for data conversion, tool configuration, data refresh or migration or other initiatives related to large application development project.
• Troubleshoot or confer with others troubleshooting errors or production problems involving databases to determine causes and proposed solutions.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• 6+ years of Oracle development experience with strong command of SQL, stored procedures or PL/SQL, triggers, etc.
• Experience with data and batch loading processes.
• Strong Data Modeling and Database design skills
• Experience with Data warehouses and transactional databases
• Proficiency with optimization techniques
• Thorough understanding of software development life cycle - Knowledge of Oracle is a plus
• Must have experience administering databases in a large environment for complex computer systems.
• Must have proficiency in design, administration, implementation, upgrades, monitoring and database tuning that ensures the application runs efficiently and reliably.
• Strong communication skills
• Candidate should have ability to work independently

Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
