Front Office Legal Assistant
Perform secretarial work, provides general office clerical duties and support, assisting the Commonwealth's Attorneys and Paralegals with dockets and court preparation and does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office Manager or designee. The hiring range for this position is from $22.73/hour to $31.26/hour based on experience. The full salary range for this position is from $22.73/hour to $39.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
Examples of Duties
Serves as front desk receptionist to answer phones and greet visitors.
Performs general legal clerical/secretarial duties.
Coordinate delivery/pickup of daily mail, faxes, legal document, and correspondence;
Update/maintain attorney and court calendar for all upcoming criminal cases, trials, and events.
Prepare and maintain legal files and records assigned.
Provides support preparing court dockets and legal documents related to all courts.
Review, research, and prepare monthly jury list;
Provide support for case file clean-up and closed cases;
Coordinates meeting area for victim/witness interviews;
Maintain/update office inventory and supply orders;
Performs basic legal research as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned/directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, and techniques; thorough knowledge of legal terminology and spelling; thorough knowledge of departmental functions, organization, and policies; general knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices utilized in the legal field; ability to maintain involved office and legal records; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to take and transcribe dictation and type at a minimum of 60 wpm; ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, partner agencies, and the public.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in typing, administration, and secretarial training and considerable experience as a legal secretary, assistant, or court clerk. Notary Public license is desirable.
