Shipyard Staffing/NSC Staffing is actively seeking qualified Forklift Operators to support operations in the Portsmouth, VA area. This position is ideal for candidates with shipyard or naval vessel experience who are skilled at safely operating forklifts up to 36K capacity in challenging and congested environments.

Position Overview:

As a Forklift Operator, you will perform loading and unloading of material skids and trucks aboard naval ships, piers, hangar bays, and flight decks. This role requires working knowledge of shipyard operations, safe equipment handling, and adherence to OSHA and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate forklifts up to 36,000 lbs capacity in shipyard and naval vessel environments.
• Load and unload materials from skids, trucks, and naval vessels.
• Maneuver forklifts on ramps, piers, hangar bays, flight decks, and other congested areas.
• Operate forklifts and aerial platforms on inclined surfaces while maintaining safety awareness.
• Provide general cleanliness and material movement support pier side, shipboard, and throughout shipyard areas.
• Follow Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) guidelines and initiate appropriate safety precautions when handling materials.
• Comply with all PPE requirements and OSHA standards for industrial equipment operation.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience:
• Minimum 2 years shipyard/naval vessel experience required.
• Minimum 6 months forklift operating experience (36K capacity preferred).

Requirements:

• Secret clearance required.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret MSDS documents and safety procedures.
• Skilled in forklift and aerial platform operations in tight, shipboard environments.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety protocols and proper use of PPE.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
• Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in variable weather/temperature conditions.
• Safely operate heavy machinery in congested and fast-paced environments.
