About The Role
Job Title: Security Specialist – Journeyman
Position Summary:
The Security Specialist provides comprehensive security support services encompassing personnel, program, physical, and information systems security functions. This role ensures compliance with Federal and Intelligence Community (IC) security standards, supports the processing and maintenance of personnel clearances, manages secure facilities, and enforces protection of classified information across multiple program levels, including SAP, SCI, and Controlled Access Programs (CAP). The Security Specialist serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance to government and contractor personnel to ensure full adherence to security policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Clearance and Administrative Support
- Coordinate and facilitate all aspects of personnel security clearance processing, including initial submissions, periodic reinvestigations, and clearance transfers.
- Collect, review, and submit required clearance documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and timelines.
- Maintain personnel security files, databases, and tracking systems to ensure data accuracy and accountability.
- Provide responsive customer service to personnel regarding clearance status, security forms, and related inquiries.
- Prepare security-related correspondence, reports, and metrics to support clearance operations.
- Support day-to-day administrative security operations, ensuring compliance with DoD, IC, and agency-specific clearance requirements.
Program Security and Information Systems Support
- Support the implementation and management of SAP, SCI, and CAP security programs, ensuring compliance with DoD and IC directives.
- Coordinate facility and personnel security activities, including SCIF accreditation, access control management, and visitor security processing.
- Conduct and support physical security inspections, security awareness briefings, and compliance checks.
- Assist in the protection of classified and sensitive information, ensuring adherence to data handling, marking, and storage procedures.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs), security audits, and other security documentation.
- Support information systems security efforts, including cryptographic controls, risk assessments, and incident tracking.
- Conduct classification management activities, ensuring proper handling and safeguarding of classified materials.
- Collaborate with internal and external security stakeholders to coordinate secure operations and resolve security incidents.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant security experience (4 years additional experience may substitute for degree).
- Active Top Secret clearance SCI with Poly
- Comprehensive knowledge of DoD 5200.01, ICD 705, NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117), and other applicable security directives.
- Demonstrated experience in personnel, physical, and program security management within a classified environment.
- Proficiency with security databases and clearance tracking systems (e.g., DISS, Scattered Castles).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of government and contractor personnel.
- Proven ability to manage multiple security functions in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Security-related certification (e.g., SFPC, SAPPC, SPeD, CISSP, or Security+) preferred.
- Experience supporting Special Access Programs (SAPs) or SCI environments.
- Familiarity with risk management frameworks (RMF) and system security documentation.
- Prior experience working in a federal, defense, or intelligence community setting.
SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range
Details
Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
