Position Summary
The Caregiver is responsible for providing personal care, companionship, and homemaker services to clients in accordance with the Virginia Department of Health (VDOH) standards, agency policies, and the individualized Plan of Care. The Caregiver plays a vital role in helping clients maintain dignity, independence, and safety within their home environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completion of at least the ninth (9th) grade; a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred.
2. Must be able to complete approved caregiver training, including an introduction to personal care services or have an equivalent current certification.
3. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation tasks.
4. Must demonstrate professional conduct, respect for client privacy, and adherence to confidentiality standards.
5. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
6. Must possess current CPR and First Aid certification or be able to obtain these certifications prior to client assignment.
7. Must pass all background and reference checks as required by VDOH and Premium Care USA policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provide care and support services as outlined in each client’s individualized Plan of Care.
2. Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), which may include:
- Bathing, grooming, and dressing
- Toileting and hygiene care
- Ambulation, transfers, and mobility support
- Meal preparation and feeding assistance
- Medication reminders
- Light housekeeping and laundry
- Companionship and social engagement
- Accompanying to appointments and errands
- Assistance arranging for medical, dental, or other health-related visits
- Taking and recording vital signs (oral temperature, pulse, respirations, etc.)
- Providing or arranging for social and recreational interaction
- Administering emergency first aid as needed
3. Maintain a safe and clean home environment, reporting any hazards or client safety concerns promptly.
4. Accurately document services rendered and observations in the client record daily.
5. Report any changes in the client’s physical, emotional, or cognitive condition to the supervisor or nurse immediately.
6. Follow agency policies, infection control standards, and professional boundaries at all times.
7. Participate in required training, meetings, and performance evaluations.
8. Represent Premium Care USA in a professional manner with clients, families, and community partners.
Additional Expectations
• Maintain consistent communication with supervisors regarding availability, schedule changes, and client updates.
• Demonstrate reliability and punctuality in all work assignments.
• Uphold the agency’s values of compassion, integrity, and professionalism in every interaction.
• Maintain valid transportation and a phone for agency communication, if applicable to assignments.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Free of communicable disease, including tuberculosis.
- Manual dexterity necessary to open food or medicine containers, prepare food, change bedding, push buttons on appliances, prepare and cook meals, perform light housekeeping, and use a smartphone.
- Be able to sit, stand, move around a home, bend, climb stairs and lift up to 15lbs.
- Must be able to focus, and apply and retain instructions and other important information.
- Must be able to speak clearly to client and the client’s family/household members.
- Must be able to remain awake continuously for up to sixteen hours per day.
- Must be able to travel in the community with the client.
- Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor during incidents of client agitation, anger or resistance to care.
- Must be able to enter information into an application on a smartphone.
- For some assignments, the caregiver must be able to support a client's weight of 130lbs to 250lbs+.
Full-time and part-time schedules are available.
