PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: Hospitalist Progressive Care Unit (20-bed telemetry unit)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (locum tenens/travel nurse contract)
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: January 5, 2026
• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1910-$1960
• Patient Ratio: 1:5 (goal 1:4)
• Float Requirement: Occasional float to other PCU or Med Surg units
• Weekend Coverage: Required (6 weekend shifts per 6-week block)
• Orientation: 32 hours

PCU RN Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU, stepdown, or telemetry nursing experience
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (required for PCU nurse jobs)
• EPIC charting experience required
• Clinical skills: telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, rapid response/code team participation, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drip management (no titration), non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to work at least 1 holiday per assignment (2 holidays during winter)
• Eligible for travel nursing assignment (local candidates within 100 miles not accepted)

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality patient care to adult and geriatric patients with pulmonary and general medicine diagnoses
• Monitor and manage telemetry patients, including ventilator and chronic trach care (non-ICU level)
• Administer IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, etc.) and manage oxygen therapy (CPAP, BiPAP)
• Perform and manage chest tubes, trach care, PICC lines, and special procedures
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response)
• Float to other PCU or Med Surg units as needed
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation using EPIC EMR
• Participate in orientation and complete required training modules
