Strategic Partnerships, Director of Business Development
- Be an impactful leader of Capital One’s Business Development strategy by developing a deep understanding of the marketplace, including partnership prospects, competitor offerings, and how Capital One is positioned to win.
- Drive communication with industry consultants and prospective partners.
- Lead a cross-functional team to develop and ultimately approve Capital One’s RFP responses.
- Structure and negotiate new deals, renewals and contracts in a competitive environment.
- Take ownership of driving and managing the deal pipeline from engagement, due diligence, negotiation, all the way through signing.
- Seamlessly transition new client relationships to client strategies.
- Leverage experience to help develop a tailored pitch strategy. Conceptualize and guide the process to create the presentation materials and engagement strategy of key decision-makers.
- Develop, manage and sustain complex internal relationships.
- Proven success with managing client relationships; have the ability to build consultative relationships, and the ability to gain credibility, trust and support across all levels of the company.
- Strong analytical, project management, presentation, marketing and creative skills.
- Experienced in strategic marketing planning and product development.
- Strong communicator and collaborative partner with an ability to build and drive consensus decision making.
- The desire to be a team player and place the best interests of the organization above personal objectives.
- Ability to make strategically bold decisions in a disciplined, fact-based manner.
- Exhibit the confidence and poise to influence senior leaders as well as internal and external stakeholders.

- Ability to develop deep understanding of Capital One’s technical and servicing capabilities, including ability to autonomously offer grounded views on if / how we could customize
- Analytical reasoning, with strong aptitude for deal economics and sensitivities (financial services and consumer credit-related products are a plus).
- Ability to lead deal negotiations with minimal support (term sheet and deal creation, anchoring, pattern of concessions, zone of potential agreement).
- Inspirational people leader focused on supporting the performance and development of associates. Ability to drive performance excellence, create a fun and motivating work environment, and be a great steward of people’s careers.
- Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, in execution of business development capabilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- At least 4+ years of leadership in general management, business development, corporate development, or partnerships acquisition
- MBA or Master’s degree
- 8+ years experience in consulting, corporate development, financial services client development or financial services partnership management
- 4+ years of experience with consumer credit-related financial products, ideally credit cards
- 2+ years of people management experience
