This position is responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, alignment, and repair of marine piping systems aboard ships, submarines, and within shipyard environments. Marine Pipefitters work with various piping systems including fuel, steam, hydraulic, seawater, and air systems while ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with specifications and industry standards.

Job Description:

Marine Pipefitters perform skilled mechanical and layout work involving shipboard piping systems and components in shipyard and marine environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, piping diagrams, isometric drawings, and work specifications.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, and fit pipe using hand tools, power tools, and pipe fabrication equipment.
  • Install and align piping systems for fuel, steam, hydraulic, seawater, compressed air, and potable water systems.
  • Assemble and install valves, flanges, supports, hangers, and related piping components.
  • Perform pipe layout, fabrication, and installation aboard vessels, in dry dock, and shipyard facilities.
  • Fit-up pipe joints and ensure proper alignment prior to welding or final assembly.
  • Assist with or perform pipe system pressure testing and inspection preparation.
  • Support installation and removal of shipboard mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Work in confined spaces, tanks, machinery rooms, and elevated shipboard areas.
  • Use hand and power tools including pipe wrenches, threaders, grinders, and cutting equipment.
  • Follow all shipyard safety procedures including hot work coordination, confined space entry, and PPE requirements.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards, specifications, and marine industry requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Communicate effectively with welders, shipfitters, supervisors, and other trades.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard pipefitting experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and piping schematics.
  • Experience with pipe layout, fabrication, and installation required.
  • Knowledge of marine piping systems including hydraulic, fuel, steam, and seawater systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of pipe fittings, flanges, valves, and supports.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and shipboard environments.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to procedures.
  • Excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Shipyard or NAVSEA experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to shipyards and naval installations (DBIDS clearance may be required).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, tanks, and shipboard machinery areas.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, crouch, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, respirators (if required), and fall protection equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, humidity, wind, and wet conditions.

Work Schedule & Hours:

  • Full-time position averaging 48–56 hours per week, including weekends as required.
  • Overtime and extended hours may be required based on production schedules and project needs.
