We are looking for a Payroll Specialist who will oversee and manage all payroll and payroll-related activities for 700+ employees. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, in this position you will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with payroll laws and regulations, and effectively utilize Deltek Costpoint and UKG. The Payroll Specialist will act as the main point of contact for all payroll-related issues and questions, providing exceptional customer service across the organization.

Working Conditions:

• Work in a corporate office type environment in Fairfax, VA
• Hybrid Work Arrangement (4 days/week in-office for 90 days, then 3 days/week)

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepare and submit weekly and semi-monthly payroll, along with benefit, timecard and other adjustments in coordination with HR
• Stay up to date on federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations, and ensure the organization remains compliant
• Calculate and withhold appropriate taxes (federal, state, and local income taxes, FICA, FUTA) and ensure timely tax filings and payments. Facilitate and resolve tax issues.
• Process various leave accruals and reconcile balances
• Manage the Payroll inbox and respond to employee questions about payroll, deductions, and related matters
• Process year-end forms and reconcile against quarterly 941 returns.
• Lead the development/updates of payroll policies, calendars, checklists, and other procedural documentation.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience processing multi-state payroll
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience using Deltek Time & Expense and Costpoint version 8.0 or later
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience using payroll applications such as ADP, UKG, or Workday
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, with a focus on Excel
• Detail-oriented and organized, with strong communication skills
• Ability to think through complex problems and present results to the Accounting Manager and/or Controller

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• UKG Payroll Pro experience
• Ability to quickly adapt to company policies and processes.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, Internal Controls, Cost Accounting Standards and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

EDUCATION LEVEL: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or another related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree is typically required
